Minister warns of increased violation of labour rights. 25 September 2023 Gender, labor and Social development minister Betty Amongi warns that as the country industrializes, it could experience a rise in the number of workers without contracts. Amongi notes that currently, the country has a number of employees who lack contracts which consequently encourages employers to disregard labour regulations and increase the number of workers in a vulnerable state. She says this has been worsened by the high informality rate in the country which in the end leads to violation of worker’s rights.
The ministry of health reveals that it is finalizing developing a new health training policy intended to regulate the admission of medical students in higher institutions of learning The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Diana Atwiine tells Radio One that the new policy will stipulate and restrict the number of students joining the profession with focus on the quality of medical practitioners churned out. Atwiine notes the policy also seeks to review entry points for students joining the medical profession and also introduction of pre internship examinations. In response, the Uganda Medical Association has opposed the move arguing that it is unrealistic and a vote of no confidence in the universities or medical training system that they undergo for four years.

Business Network International Country Director Diana Kibuuka says through networking, enterprises can reach a wider market, access the raw material, build meaningful networks key in growing their businesses. Kibuuka made the remarks during the 2nd annual BNI East African Convention, held at the Munyonyo Speak Resort under the theme, ‘Referrals for Life’ that attracted over 350 business leaders from the EAC region. Delivering his keynote address , the BNI Global Trainer Murali Srinivasan was impressed by the impact BNI has on made on the business community in the East African Community region. “The amount of closed business in Uganda in the last 12 months alone is 25.6 billion shillings . I can’t think of a better way for one to grow your business and build relationships with other business owners, said Srinivasan. BNI Founder, Dr. Ivan Misner said worldwide, BNI generated over US$22.6 billion in business for its members.
