US imposes new travel ban on gov’t of Uganda officials

The United States government imposes new travel restrictions on officials in the government of Uganda responsible for, complicit and undermine the democratic process in Uganda.
In a statement, the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken says visa restriction policy includes current or former government officials whose actions undermined freedoms of marginalized groups.
Blinken demands that the Government of Uganda significantly improves its record and hold accountable those responsible for flawed electoral processes, violence, and intimidation during the 2021 elections.
He notes that the immediate family members of the affected officials may also be subject to these restrictions.
The US demands that Uganda makes concerted efforts to uphold democracy and to respect and protect human rights for the two countries to sustain the decades-long partnership.

MPs question the 3.5 trillion supplementary budget.

Members of parliament’s Budget committee are not content with a 3.5 trillion shillings supplementary budget requested by government.
This as the state minister for finance Henry Musasizi, state minister for energy Opolot Okasai , state minister for animal husbandry Bright Rwamirama and several officials from government ministries and agencies appeared before the committee to justify the request.
Committee members questioned the inconsistence and justifications in the budgetary request.
Mps including Mohammed Muwanga Kivumbi argued that some of the funds in the supplementary budget were already spent by government agencies before parliamentary approval which is contrary to the law.

Uganda has capacity to manage cancer cases- Experts.

Experts reveal that Uganda has over the years built capacity to treat and handle all cancer related cases showing optimism that approval of the National Cancer Control plan will complement the existing efforts.
Under the Uganda Cancer Society, the medical experts say that the National Cancer Control Plan offers strategic pillars that help in early detection & diagnostics of cancer, treatment, health promotion and avails necessary interventions.
The Executive Directive Uganda Cancer Society Denis Olodi says cancer risk factor prevalence and resources available to implement the plan in the context of socio-economic environment and healthcare system.
Olodi argues that for the plan to yield meaningful results and transform the landscape of cancer control in Uganda, increased political will from policy makers and partners is required.
For his part Dr Noleb Mugisha Chair Comprehensive Community Cancer while addressing the media ahead of the inaugural National Cancer Symposium to be held on Thursday this week in Kampala said key actions are required from every stakeholder in response to the National cancer control plan.
