26 June 2025 A new study indicates that government’s investment in the road infrastructure has minimally contributed to food security at household level in several areas parts of the country. The study titled leveraging road and market infrastructure for households food security is being conducted by renowned think tank , Economic Policy Research Center . Preliminary findings acknowledge that government has invested enormous resources in roads to link farmers to vital markets and ensure agricultural produce flow freely but many households have instead moved away from critical infrastructure. Swaibu Mboowa a Research Fellow at the Economic Policy Research Center presented the findings at Protea Hotel in Kampala and urged goverment to conduct aggregation to ease work for trader. 25 June 2025 A former flying squad unit operative, Abdulnoor Semujju alias Minana has been charged before the Chief Magistrate’s Court at Nakawa with the brutal murder of former Assistant DPP Joan Kagezi. This now brings the number of suspects so far charged in relation to the Kagezi murder to six Minana was first arrested in connection with Kagezi’s murder in 2017 and later released but in light of the intensified investigations, Minana was picked from his home in Nakyesa village Galilaya -sub-county in Kayunga District last Thursday. Grade One Magistrate Daphne Ayebare read to him the charges and remanded him to Luzira prison until 8th July as investigations into this case continue. The Magistrate also ordered that Minana to be medically examined and a report be furnished to Court at the next sitting. Minana joins SSP Nixon Agasirwe; the former SIU Commandant and 3 other suspects who are already committed to the International Crimes Division of the High Court to stand trial for the brutal murder of Joan Kagezi. 25 June 2025 The leader of opposition Joel Ssenyonyi is concerned that members of parliament who have recently joined the National Unity Platform party have not been announced on the floor of parliament.
During the state of nation address and Budget reading the speaker announced 17 members of parliament who had crossed from different political parties but the names did not include MPs who had joined NUP.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament today Ssenyonyi who is also the party spokesperson notes that even though this is not a priority for the party at the moment as the MPs chose to move to NUP. Ssenyonyi has also revealed that they are waiting to see how parliament will handle the funding of political parties noting that during the 10th parliament the former speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga ruled that new parties had to wait for a new term to benefit from government funding. In the meantime, National Unity Platform Party Election Management Committee, has extended the expression of interest and nomination exercise citing the overwhelming number of aspirants. NUP EC chairperson Harriet Chemutai, says the process has now been pushed to July 25th. Story by Kenneth Anderson Lukwago.
