09 May 2025 A revelation from key players in the beef sector indicates that there is a high demand for Uganda’s beef globally owing to the fact that it is grass fed hence giving more health benefits to the Consumers. The Chief Executive Officer Ranchers Finest, a leading producer of fresh and processed meat products in the East African Region Collins Muyanja says consumers have become more health conscious, self-aware and willing to spend more money on high quality food products. Speaking at the launch of Kampala’s first meat supermarket , Muyanja noted that its against this background that Ugandan beef products are on high demand globally. He reveals that they are now exporting in Europe, the Middle East, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and Tanzania among others. “For a long time it has been Brazil and Australia exporting to the rest of the world but we are confident we now have the quality that meets the international standards in terms of processing , package , storage and the whole value chain is fit for the international market.” Muyanja disclosed. In the meantime, Muyanja says they have resolved to set up the first ever Meat Supermarket in Kampala which is part of efforts intended to uphold meat standards domestically. He notes that the meat Supermarket located at Forest Mall in Kamapala will help address the growing demand in Kampala for convenient access to high quality meat products. Story by Wycliffe Sebunya
09 May 2025 President Yoweri Museveni says there is need to identify leakages and inefficiency in the health sector in order to ensure proper utilization of resources as a strategy to eliminate dependency of the sector on donors. President Museveni observes that while the Government has overtime increased the health sector budget to 4.47 trillion in the next financial year, 30% of the health sector expenditure is contributed by out of pocket contributions from Ugandans. This in his statement read out by the Prime Minister Robinah Nabanjja at the National Financing for Health Sector funding conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo. Nabanjja undertakes to present recommendations made at the conference to cabinet and parliament
09 May 2025 The Uganda Aids Commission is yet to rollout the Aids Fund due to delays by Government to have it have operationalized.
The Fund was approved by Parliament and an initial 10 billion shillings earmarked as it awaits contributions from other stakeholders to fund initiatives geared towards the elimination of the scourge.
While appearing before parliament’s Committee on the Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises- COSASE led by deputy chairperson Allan Mayanja, the director for finance at the Uganda Aids Commission Quinto Rwotoyera explained that contradictions between the ministry of finance and that of health over the fund caused delays to have it operationalized. In the meantime , Parliament’s Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises discovers that the Uganda Aids commission to has failed to implement National HIV/ AIDS strategic plan for the last 2 financial years This after the committee realized that the commission has failed to implement several interventions to counter HIV / AIDS with some key projects missing progressive data about the strides made towards behavior change on HIV / AIDs The Committee’s Deputy Chairperson Allan Mayanja cites the Auditor General’s report that indicates immense incomplete projects by the commission.
