The ruling National Resistance Movement Party finalizes its primaries in which over 500 people were seeking the party’s ticket ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Here are some of the results from several parts of the country.
Former Mukono district Chairperson Francis Lukooya Mukoome has been declared winner as the NRM district flag bearer in the forthcoming general elections.
Lukooya garnered 29,530 votes making a percentage of 89% where as his competitors Jimmy Lugoloobi and Yusuf Awuye Sulaiman garnered 569 and 3099 votes respectively.
Steven Nakabaale, the party Returning Officer for Mukono district made the declaration.
Wakiso District NRM Electoral Commission Returning Officer, declared Fabrice Rulinda as the NRM party flag bearer for Entebbe Municipality Mayoral seat
This after after polling 4,758 votes out of the 6,579 voters who cast the vote, representing 72.3 percent, beating two other contestants in the race, Michael Mutebi Kabwama who got a total of 1,755 votes and Habib Byamukama Kashilling who attained only 66 votes.
Nakasongola District LC V Chairperson, Samuel Kigula, has lost his bid to retain the NRM party flag in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Kigula was defeated by Rogers Semanda Kulaba in a hotly contested primary election.
The NRM Nakasongola District Returning Officer, Godfrey Batumbya, declared Semanda the winner at exactly 10:52 p.m. on Thursday night, after he garnered 14,325 votes.
Semanda was closely followed by the incumbent, Samuel Kigula, who received 13,227 votes.
James Muruuli Wandera, a former district chairperson, came third with 5,272 votes in his attempt to return to the position.
Amos Sekate followed with 1,811 votes, while Ronald Sekibala trailed the pack with 475 votes.

In the meantime, Moses Tugume Kafunda beat Ssenabulya Kakumba for the Mityana Municipality Mayorship flag.
Patrick Nkalubo won the NRM party flag to contest for Ssembabule District Chairperson after polling the highest number of votes.
Nkalubo secured a total of 59,661 votes, his rival Dr Elly Muhumuza got 15,357 votes, James Kabuganda was third got 14045 votes, whereas Richard Naturida got 1501 votes and Mutebi Quraishi got 977 votes.
In Ibanda, the Incumbent District Chairperson Happy Herbert Mayanja has been re-elected as the NRM flag bearer after securing a landslide victory
Mayanja polled 41,739 votes beating three other contestants.
In Kampala, vote tallying is still underway for individuals vying for the NRM ticket for the seat of Lord Mayor.
The contest is between Chairperson Kampala City Trader’s Association Thadeous Musoke and Moses Kizito Nsubuga.
