Youths want road projects in Bunyoro investigated

A group of youths from Bunyoro region demand that parliament investigates circumstances under which a key road project in the region has stalled despite the African Development Bank releasing resources to work on it.

The youth’s say that Government promised to have the Kigumba-Masindi-Hoima-Kyenjojo road constructed beginning last financial year and that this was followed by a provision in the budget and a loan from the African Development bank.

The lead petitioner Rogers Kanti tells speaker Rebecca Kadaga that this road project was promised before by the president during the two previous presidential campaigns and that recently he had indicated that construction would start by last week but in vain.

He says that the Banyoro are bitter considering the importance of the region following the discovery of oil.

Speaker Kadaga demanded for evidence after they indicated that the money was diverted prompting Kanti to point out that the physical infrastructure committee of parliament documented the matter. He also cited documents from the African Development Bank.
