UNRA bans twisted iron bars

The Uganda National Bureau of standards bans all twisted iron bars used in construction, in a bid to improve the quality and strength of construction materials in the country.

Executive director UNBS Dr. Ben Manyindo said that the twisted bars especially those used in construction of storied structures are weak and of poor standards.

He said that they have agreed with all stake holders including traders, manufacturers and those in construction to begin clearing all their stock of the twisted iron bars and replace them with the new type called the ribbed bars by 30th June this year.
