UNATU petitions President M7 over SACCO funds

Uganda National Teachers Union –UNATU Petitions President Yoweri Museveni over the teacher’s SACCO Funds saying they should be managed by the umbrella union for all Teachers SACCOs.

President Yoweri Museveni gave the teachers 25 billion where Government releases 5 billion every financial year but teachers under UNATU are concerned that the 10 billion that has been released so far was taken to micro finance support center on orders of Education Minister Jessica Alupo and the Ministry Permanent secretary Rose Nassali and thus has not benefited teachers.

Addressing a news conference  at the teachers house in Kampala UNATU General Secretary James Tweheyo said the teachers cannot access the money because of the high interest rates and thus want to access their money through the teacher’s SACCO.

They have issued an ultimatum of up to 30th January next year to have received their money failure of which they will lay down their tools.

However Tweheyo says the teachers are grateful to the ministries of finance, public service and all accounting officers that have made it possible for teachers to receive their pay on time especially this festive season
