Uganda needs over 1400 midwives

As Uganda joins the rest of the world top mark the international day of midwives the ministry of health notes that the country needs over 1400 midwives to bridge the service gap.

According to the World health organization a midwife is expected to deliver 175 mothers but in Uganda a midwife delivers at least 500 which government says that needs to be improved.

The State Minister for health in charge of general duties Chris Baryomunsi admits the existence of the shortage of midwives but adds that efforts are underway to recruit more than 2000 to bridge the gap.

He says that efforts towards this have already taken shape and the country shall have enough midwives in the near future.
