Uganda marks international women’s day

Uganda joins the rest of the world to mark the International women’s day with the national celebrations being held in Kabaale district.

The International women’s day is an opportunity to celebrate women’s economic, social and political achievements.

According to the British High commission in Uganda, Uganda has registered progress on gender equality in recent years, particularly in terms of women’s emancipation in government and parliament.

Uganda has also achieved gender parity in primary school enrolment but challenges remain.

In the meantime, health rights activists urge women to always go for early diagnosis for various diseases to reduce the number of women who die as a result of simple illnesses

In a similar development, Wakiso district Member of Parliament Rosemary Sseninde says there is need to empower women with vocational skills so as to address poverty and unemployment among them.

Sseninde says women contribute 80% of the responsibilities in families hence the need to empower them
