Uganda among 10 worst countries to grow old

Uganda is ranked among the 10 worst places to grow old in the World, according to an index of the quality of later life in 96 countries.

HelpAge International’s Global AgeWatch Index measures the social and economic welfare of those over 60.

Among the 10 worst places to be old is Iraq, Zambia, Uganda, Jordan, Pakistan, Tanzania, Malawi, West Bank and Gaza, Mozambique and Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Norway is the best place to grow old closely followed by Sweden, Switzerland, Canada and Germany.

Speaking to Radio One, state minister for elderly and disabled persons Sulaiman Madada concurs with the report attributing Uganda’s poor ranking to conflicts in the past but notes that several interventions are being made
