Taxi drivers to strike on Monday

Taxi Drivers under the National Union of Drivers, cyclists and Allied Workers announce a strike with effect Monday next week in protest of what they claim to be continued mistreatment by KCCA.

The Union’s Public Relations Officer Willy Katende in a statement says that    they have given KCCA and government a period of one week to immediately release all taxi drivers who have been arrested by KCCA and detained in Luzira prison.

Addressing a press conference at their offices in Nattete, Katende urged KCCA to halt the impending Kampala operational   Taxi stages Association elections claiming that they are a disruption to the taxi industry.

However taxi drivers under the Kampala Operational Taxi Stages Association denounce participation in the strike.

The coordinator of the association Yasin Sematimba  also says that the elections will go on as scheduled on Friday at  lugogo UMA show ground.
