Sugarcane farmers in Busoga call off strike

Sugar factories in Busoga region finally bow to pressure by sugarcane farmers and suppliers, resolving to review the current prices of sugarcane.

Last week, Kakira sugar factory released a circular indicating that the prices for sugar cane per ton was reduced from 175,000/= to 156,000/=.

This didn’t go down well with the out growers who resolved to stop the supply of sugarcane until the prices are increased

The Manager out growers Robert Omudin says they have agreed not to reduce prices without the farmer’s consent.
