Kyaka South MP Jackson Kafuuzi wants parliament to stop humanitarian agencies from importing food mainly for refugees but instead purchase food items from local farmers.

Kafuuzi made the remarks during an interview with reporters on the sidelines of the launch of the 6 billion world  Bank funded “Development Response to Displacement Impact Project (DRDIP)” in Kyegegwa district.

He says this will help address improve refugee hosting communities improve their income and lives as per the objectives the World Bank project.

Kafuzi government should intervene and compel humanitarian services purchase food items from locals to help ease access to market for their farm produce.

He says Uganda hosts over 1.5 million  refugees noting that if   agencies   like the  United Nations High Commission for  Refugees  , Red cross among others are encouraged to buy from within,  at least  host  communities  that grow  food crops like maize  would   have better prices  for their  produce.
