A Principal State Attorney is charged with abuse of office and causing his employer financial loss of 37 million shillings.

Elisha Bafiirawala who appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court is jointly charged with Sebanja Abubakar an Advocate of the High court with whom he allegedly connived to be paid the amount.

Prosecution says, Bafiirawala handled a case on behalf of Government, that was filed and successfully won by a Construction company- Babcon Uganda Ltd against Lake Victoria Management Project in 2008.

However in abuse of the authority of his office, in August/2012 Bafiirawala falsely initiated and caused a payment of 37m to Sebanja,  well aware that his actions would cause a financial loss to the Government of Uganda, since Lake Victoria Management Project had already paid the authorized parties.

They have been ordered to deposit a cash bail of one million shillings each plus their Passports with court.

Their sureties who included Uganda Law Society President Simon Peter Kinobe and MP for Bukedea Anita Among were told to sign a noncash bond of 12.5mshs, and ensure that the accused persons return to court on 18th/June.
