Police wants traffic rules amended

The police traffic and road safety department want the road safety act amended to provide for tougher punishments, fines and sentences to motorists who flout traffic rules and regulations.

Police Director in charge of Traffic and Road Safety Dr. Steven Kasiima says the law recommends that individuals who flout traffic rules be punished especially through express penalty tickets without prosecution.

Kasiima notes that some cases like killing people through reckless driving should not have options of fines but should only be imprisoned

He adds that courts should also cancel driving permits of habitual offenders
