Police should own up its mistakes- Activists

Defenders of journalist’s rights say police should own up its mistakes and stop pointing fingers at the media which passes on information to the public.

This after the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kaihura accused the media of bias after it run pictures of police officers clobbering supporters of Dr. Kiiza Besigye who were cheering him on his way back home

The National Co-ordinator Human Rights Network for Journalists Uganda Robert Ssempala says the force should concentrate on being professional other than accusing the media

In the meantime, the Commandant Police Professions standards unit Fortunate Habyara says more police officers will be tried for using excessive force on supporters of Dr. Kiiza Besigye

This after concerns that only junior officers were tried yesterday yet a number of senior commanders recorded statements with police but were not tried.

Habyara assures that investigations are underway and that senior officers will also be prosecuted
