Police officer who leaked tapes remanded

Buganda road court magistrate Lillian Buchana sets 23rd May 2014 as the date to give her ruling on whether a police officer Ronald Poteli accused of leaking information will take plea or not.

Prosecution alleges that while at the CIID headquarters in Kampala, Poteli who is attached to the political crimes department of police passed on confidential and official secrets to unauthorized persons.

The detective was arrested after investigations indicated that he handed over secret recordings to the prime minister’s wife Jacqueline Mbabazi .

Poteli had failed to take early this month after his lawyer complained that he had spent more than the mandatory 48 hours in detention without trial.

The detective has been remanded until 23rd May when the ruling will be delivered
