Police blocks FDC officials from distributing food in Katakwi

Police fires gun shots and tear gas as it blocks the opposition FDC party from distributing relief food items to over 2000 hunger stricken families in Toroma, Katakwi district.

Four people have reportedly been injured in the process.

FDC Deputy Secretary General in Charge of administration Harold Kaija says the party was to distribute 2000 bags of maize flour

Kaija says the food was to be given to families headed by women and to the elderly persons but police led by Katakwi Regional Police Commander Francis Tumwesigye thwarted the plans.

The FDC contingent comprised of former FDC presidential flag bearer Dr. Kiiza Besigye, FDC President Mugisha Muntu, and other party officials who include Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo and Ingrid Turinawe among others.

RPC Francis Tumwesigye, told journalists that they needed to examine the food before they allow the FDC party members to distribute it.   He says the FDC was holding an illegal assembly.
