Players in the oil sector want Ugandan drivers trained to meet standards

The Transport and Logistic Sector players plan to provide training to local Ugandan drivers to attain the standards needed to operate commercial vehicles to be used in key projects including the oil and Gas Sector.

The sector players are concerned that many driving jobs will be taken over by foreigners if Ugandan truck drivers are not well trained to modern standards.

Driving commercial trucks is one of the key provisions for Ugandans under the local content policy but many Ugandan drivers do not have the required standards beyond having driving permits.

The chairman of the Uganda Freight Forwarders Association Hussein Kiddedde says that the key projects require international standards and that even those Ugandan drivers who are not highly educated will be helped to attain them.
