Nantaba not under arrest – Rugunda

The Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda says the State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Idah Eriosi Nantaba is not under arrest.

Rugunda also Leader of government business was tasked by the Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament, Roland Kaginda Mugume, during the Prime Minister’s question time, to explain the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Nantaba from Parliament and social media reports that she is under arrest.

Mugume noted that Nantaba has not appeared at Parliament for any plenary proceeding or committee meeting since March 24, 2019 when Ronald Ssebulime was mysteriously shot and killed by police who responded to an alarm made by the state minister.

He says that it is strange for Nantaba, who also is Kayunga district woman member of parliament, to stay away from both her ministerial and Parliamentary duties of representing her people.

Without explaining, Rugunda in his response briefly stated that Nantaba, who is now wanted by court, is not under house arrest.

On June 28, 2019 Mukono Magistrate Court issued summon against Nantaba and three others for causing the death of Ssebulime, who was allegedly shot and killed when already handcuffed.
