Minister halts eviction of over 6000 residents

The ministry of lands halts the eviction over 6000 residents in three villages by six businessmen in Kalungu district who wanted to use the land for sand mining.

The residents of Kamuwunga landing site, Kirimanyaga and Kityaba villages in Lukaya town council and Lwabenge Sub County respectively were on the verge of being evicted by six businessmen including a UPDF officer who claim ownership of the land that is currently occupied.

However, the lands minister Daudi Migereko rushed to the area to examine the disputes that had culminated into series of violence as tenants resisted eviction.

After hearing form the residents who claim to be bonafide occupants, Migereko directed that activities of the businessmen on the controversial land be halted as the matter is investigated.
