Measles hits Kampala & Wakiso district

The Ministry of Health says they are re-embarking on a mass immunization campaign against measles following a reported outbreak in Kampala and Wakiso last week.

Health Minister Jane Ruth Achieng says the fresh outbreak has alerted the Ministry and its partners that they need to worker harder to ensure wider coverage in all their programs.

She revealed this at the opening of the 10th session of the Uganda Onchocerciasis Elimination Expert Advisory Committee (UOEEAC) at Sheraton Hotel.

Achieng also expresses concern that the gains obtained from the fight against neglected tropical diseases might be undermined by free vector and human movement across borders saying there is need for stronger collaboration across East African countries.
