Masaka hospital to build TB isolation ward

Masaka Regional referral hospital has undertakes construction of an isolation ward for multi drug Resistant Tuberculosis patients, to prevent further infection.

Multi drug resistant tuberculosis occurs when the infection gets to the advanced stage and one becomes resistant to the first line of treatment.

Eleazer Mugisha, the Masaka regional referral hospital principal administrator says they considered a special ward for these patients due to the high intricacy involved in managing their conditions.

He says such patients need to be attended to, from an isolated facility which the hospital has been operating without despite the recurrent need, revealing that the hospital already has 24 MDR-TB patients and expects the number to increase given the regular diagnoses.
