Kabaziguruka fails to appear before court

Nakawa Division Member of Parliament Micheal Kabaziguruka has not  been produced as expected at the Army court in Makindye today following reports of ill health.

Prison authorities from Kigo government prison where Kabaziguruka is currently held on treachery charges and offences relating to security , informed  the General Court Martial chairman Lt.Gen Andrew Gutti that the Legislator  is undergoing treatment and is unable to attend court.

However they did not disclose to court the kind of illness he is suffering from.

Meanwhile 22 of Kabaziguruka’s co- accused both from Kigo prison and Makindye Millitary police Headquatres have appeared, but the charges were amended by the State to add another suspect bringing the number to 24 accused persons.

The new suspect Felix Aluge a motor vehicle mechanic from Oyam district also pleaded not guilty to charges Treachery and Offences relating to security like the 22 suspects who maintained their innocence.

Prosecution led by Maj. Rapheal Mugisha alleges that the 24 accused persons including MP Kabaziguruka, and others still at large between months of February and June this year, in districts of Wakiso, Kampala and Luweero, with an intention to overthrow the government of Uganda, infiltrated the security of the defence forces and engaged in war- like activities.

Before adjourning the matter, Gen. Gutti advised that the suspects who feel that their complaint, regarding the constitutionality of their trial before the Army  court was not well addressed, should put it in writing  and the court will decide on it at the next court appearance which is 2nd of August.

The 23 suspects were then sent back on remand to Kigo government prison and Makindye Military police Headquarters respectively till the said date.
