Judiciary acting strangely- Besigye’s lawyers

Lawyers of former FDC presidential candidate Kizza Besigye express their frustration over the manner in which the Judiciary is handling the criminal application filed by Besigye in court against the Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura and Kampala Metropolitan north Police Commander Wesley Nganizi.

David Mpanga says the Judiciary is acting strangely towards their client after the Deputy Registrar of the Criminal Division of the High court Eleanor Khainza recalled the application from Kasangati Grade One magistrate court for review in the High court.

Grade One Magistrate Prossy Katushabe was expected to deliver the ruling on the application today but the recall has upset Besigye’s lawyers who protest the month long detention at his Kasangati home.

Mpanga, who appeared in court to hear the ruling, questions the motive of the recall noting that court should have urgently addressed itself to the violation of Besigye’s rights by the security agencies.

Mpanga says they will pursue the matter in high court although he indicates that there are deliberate delay tactics to keep Besigye in detention longer.
