Govt denies plans to dialogue with Besigye

The Government says it’s not aware of any plans to have dialogue with former presidential candidate Dr Kiiza Besigye or the FDC party under the mediation of the Swedish Government.

Reports have been rife in the media about the said talks with FDC confirming last week that indeed Sweden had appointed an official to mediate but insisted that the initial talks will be about auditing the 2016 presidential elections.

Yesterday Dr Besigye told FDC members in Soroti that such talks would give an opportunity to President Yoweri Museveni to negotiated his peaceful exit and that he was ready for the talks.

But the Government spokesman Ofwono Opondo says that they are not privy to such plans insisting that presidential election matters were resolved by the Supreme Court.

The Government says it will pursue the matter with the Swedish Government through diplomatic channels but challenges its embassy in Kampala to clearly state who approached them to take up such a role.
