EC opposes proposed reconstitution

The Electoral commission leadership opposes reconstituting the commission ahead of the 2016 elections on grounds that there would not be enough time to enable the new team to organize elections.

The Commission secretary Sam Rwakojo says it’s inconceivable for such an overhaul to take place as demanded by the opposition and civil society

EC chairman Dr Badru Kiggundu backs Rwakojo’s stand adding that legally their term of office ends in November 2016.

Kiggundu further notes that the commission be provided adequate funding in time

This While appearing before the legal and parliamentary affairs committee of parliament to submit over the constitutional amendment bill 2015,                 

The commission has also advised parliament to ensure that all relevant amendments towards the 2016 elections are concluded by August with Dr Kiggundu stressing that the commission will be constrained should parliament
