EAC Judges call for common standards when handing down sentences

East African Magistrates and Judges are advocating for common standards in sentencing for various crimes saying it is a complicated process of the court.

President East African Courts Magistrates and Judges Association, also High Court Judge of Uganda, Justice Lawrence Gidudu says that similar crimes should have the same penalty .

This today at Royal Suites in Bugolobi  during  a conference of East African Magistrates and Judges Association in partnership with Foundation For Human Rights Initiative.

Gidudu explains further the circumstances in which certain sentences are given.

Executive Director Foundation For Human Rights Initiative   Livingstone sewanyana says that they welcome the idea of sentencing guild lines that were introduced to enable fair trial.
