DP President takes leave of office

Democratic Party President Nobert Mao takes leave of office citing medical reasons.

Addressing a news conference at the DP head office today Mao said he is taking a break from day to day activities of the party following advice from doctors to have rest.

Mao was in July last year admitted in Nairobi Hospital after being referred from Lacor Hospital in Gulu district where he was diagnosed with acute malaria.  He was hospitalized for close to two months before he was discharged

He has instructed   Vice President of the Party President John Kawanga , Secretary general  Matthais Nsubuga  and party Spokesperson among others to take charge of the party.

Mao also attacks forces largely based in the central region of Buganda that are fighting him to tear the party apart.

Mao says that these forces have continued to fight him because of his ethnicity.

Yesterday Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago addressed a news conference and announced that supporters within the Democratic Party wanted him to take over the leadership of the party.

Mao, who did not categorize such forces, says they should respect him as the party President and should follow the party constitution to take over leadership.
