Doctors reject govt directive to return to work

Striking doctors reject Government directive to return to call off their strike and go back to work.

Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng said that the strike by the doctors is illegal. She indicated that President Museveni has directed RDCS to carry out a roll call for doctors and health workers on duty at all health facilities starting today.

However while addressing a news conference at Shangai Restaurant in Kampala, the Medical Association President Dr Ekwaro Obuku   noted that the negative action by the minister of health has threatened the progress they made with Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda.

He says some of the doctors are considering immediate withdrawal of emergency health services.

The medical Interns under their national union have also demand better pay.

At the same news conference, the head of the Interns Association, Robert Lubega announced that they will lay down their tools if their monthly pay is not increased to 2.5 million shillings
