Day three of presidential election petition hearing

Day three of hearing of the presidential election petition starts at the Supreme Court with lawyers of President Yoweri Museveni responding to submissions presented by the petitioner Amama Mbabazi

In their submission, Museveni’s lawyers led by Didas Nkurunziza have opposed the petition arguing that it has no merit and that it ought to be dismissed with costs

They defended the president against claims of voter bribery through giving out hoes noting that the allegation is not true and that there is no evidence to back up that claim.

They say giving out hoes was an ongoing government program for the distribution of hoes throughout the country but with emphasis on northern Uganda

Museveni’s lawyers add that the 250,000/= sent to villages was for the NRM party activities and that it was sent in August before campaigns for the presidency began

Kiryowa Kiwanuka responded to claims that the Electoral Commission carried out the electoral process without compliance to the law
