CSOs to file addendum on electoral reforms

Civil society organizations under the coalition on electoral democracy in Uganda ask for more time from parliament to allow them file an addendum on proposals that remain controversial in the ongoing amendment of the Parliamentary elections amendment bill 2019.

The legal and parliamentary committee is currently on a consultative drive on the proposed piece of legislation and receiving proposals from various stakeholders.

Among the proposals that remain contentious is the issue of independents crossing to parties within 12 months which they say should be handled carefully as it contravenes the constitution.

The team led by former minister Miria Matembe and Sarah Birete from the center for constitutional governance also raised the issue of banning media gadgets at election venues and election financing among others.
