City lawyer Bob Kasango ordered to pay Tooro queen mother 3 billion
Buganda Road court has sentenced a city advocate Bob Kasango to pay a fine of 12 million shillings or in default to serve a 4 years imprisonment at Luzira prison for stealing over 3.5 billion shillings from the Toro queen
mother Best Kemigisha.
Chief magistrate Jamson Karemani also ordered that Kasango refunds 3.5 billion shillings to kemigisha with in 30 days from today or else his property will be attached to recover the said money.
The sentence follows Kasango’s conviction on appeal by HighCourt Judge Elizabeth Kabanda early this month.
Kasango was in February, 2015 acquitted of the same case however,
Kemigisa being dissatisfied appealed in the HighCourt which found him guilty and referred Kasango back to
Buganda Road Court for sentencing.
Kasango was convicted on two counts of uttering false documents and stealing the said money by an agent which he obtained on behalf of Kemigisha as compensation of her land from government in 2012.
While sentencing Kasango, the magistrate said such acts of advocates stealing from their clients are on the rise and courts should be vigilant and awakened to come to the rescue of helpless victims.
However DPP is dissatisfied with the ruling and intends to appeal what the PRO Jane Kajuga described as a sentence that doesnot fit the crime and that is not detterent at all.
