A section of DP members want a special conference to resolve the crisis in the party
The Truth and Justice Political pressure group is urging the current Democratic Party leadership to convene a special conference so that all stakeholders can chart a way forward for the crisis stricken party.
The pressure group is made up of majority DP members led by the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago
The deputy leader of the group also former presidential candidate Samuel Lubega Mukaku says that the disagreements that emerged before the party held its delegates conference ahead of the 2016 elections must be addressed
He tells Journalists at Rock Gardens-Speke hotel that the current party leadership must accept that it cannot single handedly salvage the party
As part of efforts to address the challenges in the party, the pressure group has organized a dialogue on Friday this week at the Matia Mulumba hall in old Kampala to which DP leaders have been invited. Mukaku says that police have no authority to block this meeting like they did with that organized by Betty Nambooze last week and that the police has been notified.
