Gen. Muhoozi warns the Corrupt in the forces.

The New Chief of Defence Forces — CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba says there’s need to banish the curse of corruption in the forces which has become a major hindrance to achieving objectives that have been set.
Muhoozi was recently appointed CDF replacing Gen Wilson Mbadi, who was appointed state minister of trade.
Speaking at the handover ceremony at 4th division headquarters in Gulu, Muhoozi said corruption within the force continues to frustrate efforts in the area of professionalization of the army and welfare and says his is determined to deal with this challenge.
Outgoing CDF Gen Wilson Mbadi urged Muhoozi to promote team work and always consult other senior officers before taking any decision.

NUP renews calls for unconditional release of party members.

The opposition National Unity Platform Party renews calls for unconditional release of party members and supporters who have been in detention for over 4 years with party leader Robert Kyagulanyi saying the party is not willing to negotiate over violation of human rights.
Yesterday a one Ali Kategerega reported to be Councilor representing Kakunyu ward, Kimanya Kabonera division in Masaka city appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to release the NUP supporters saying they had been misled by political opportunists.
Katerega who was wearing a uniform popularly used by a group known as the foot soldiers of the party was taken to state house by new minister in charge of youth affairs and children affairs as new ministers took oath.
While responding to his request President Museveni said all those that did not engage in criminal acts such as murder can be released but asked his staff in state house to gather information from Katerega and have a list of names presented to him for scrutiny and action.
Kyagulanyi has disowned Katerega and says as NUP did not assign him.
He was speaking at the belated women’s day celebrations held at the party headquarters in Kavule.
Meanwhile Kyagulanyi says as NUP they are moving towards ensuring that women take up 50 percent of all key positions in the party in recognition of the role they are playing in society.

Actors demand for enactment of consumer protection laws.

Civil Society Organization, Consent, a consumer protection entity is concerned that the government is reluctant on the implementation of policies and other regulatory frameworks that help to protect consumers from unsafe products.
Focusing on the use of the Artificial Intelligence technologies they note that this is now highly dependent on data collection in all critical sectors like health, education among others however, the protection part is still wanting.
In his remarks at the climax of the World Consumer Right Day, the Team leader Consent Uganda Henry Kimera, says that among the issues that need to be worked is ensuring that the government entities work in collaboration to implement the polices that available to safe guard consumers from unsafe products .
Meanwhile Joseph Kizito, the head of the consumer protection Unit UCC notes that when it comes to Artificial intelligence issues a number of issues need to be addressed including abuse, fraud noting that these can be efficiently dealt with through sensitization.
He also adds that challenges like electricity stability, illiterate populace that limits adoption, access of standard gadgets.
